BCCE and CLASP are pleased to announce the appointment of an Ecumenical Mission Officer.  The Revd Philip Webb BD BSc MTh, has been appointed to the post of Ecumenical Mission Officer, a position deriving from that held at present by Mike Topliss, the County Ecumenical Officer.  The new post seeks to focus ecumenical work on encouraging and supporting Mission initiatives amongst the denominations and so heighten the ecumenical opportunities for co-operation at all levels.  Philip Webb is at present the County Ecumenical Development Officer for Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.  Philip is a Baptist Minister, who has worked in the Baptist Union Dept of Ministry, served as a Minister in St Albans and Maidstone and presently resides with his wife in Chellaston, south of Derby.  It is planned that his new role will begin on 1st October 2010.

Church leaders in BCCE and CLASP are delighted with this appointment and look forward to a new chapter of working together in God’s mission to the world.  It is appropriate at this point to give thanks for the outstanding work of Mike Topliss, who has worked faithfully for many years in the areas covered by the two bodies.  A Service of Thanksgiving for Mike’s work and a welcome for the new officer, Philip Webb, will take place on Thursday 30th September 2010, 7.15pm for 7.45pm in the United Reformed Church, The Broadway, Walsall, WS5 3PH.

Philip says: "throughout my time as an ecumenical officer it has been my joy and privilege to work and worship with Christians of all traditions, to learn from them, to commend them to their brothers and sisters in Christ, and to help them in their local mission. Ecumenism always means learning about each other, but that is not an end in itself. For me ecumenism is always mission-shaped. We come together primarily to be more effective in doing all that God calls his Church to be and do in today’s world.”

He adds, “Now with a new area to discover I am very much looking forward to meeting many new people and working with them as we explore God’s exciting opportunities together.”

The Reverend Philip Webb
