The Pilgrim Prayer | Other sources for prayers | Prayers for the Black Country | Hymn Texts | Cursicle and Rebuttal |
The Pilgrim Prayer was published at the end of the Swanwick Declaration (see Ecu-scripts). Some groups use it regularly, may be to commence or to conclude Churches Together group meetings.
The Week (or Octave) of Prayer does not have to be confined to January! Increasingly the material is being considered appropriate to Pentecost, or at some other time when it suits the local churches. See "Other sources for prayers".
Is there a bigger ecumenical event than the Women's World Day of Prayer? Go to "Other sources for prayers" for link to their website.
Prayers for the Black Country have been adapted from intercessions used at the commissioning service of the ecumenical officer (as County Ecumenical Officer for the Staffordshire Plus Ecumenical Council, as was, on 3rd October, 1998).
Hymn Texts. Mike Topliss has included two of his own hymns "for starters", hoping to encourage some of the talented people in the area who have written material that is not denominationally specific and therefore usable by other congregations than the folk who sang the world premiere. "The Challenge to Jerusalem" would be particularly appropriate on Palm Sunday, but as it is a prayer for integrity maybe its use is not just for a once-a-year day.
"Since ancient times" is usable especially for an occasion focussing on third world issues and the work of Christian Aid, CAFOD and Tearfund.
"Cursicle and Rebuttal" is a new litany, written in the Sydney Carter tradition, when the Parable of the Rich Fool was coming up in the Revised Common Lectionary. It may be found appropriate during Lent,or any time we may feel prey to advertisers.
Again, if you have some fresh, home-made, worship material to share, let us know.
